Dowland.txt This is Dowland's second book of Songs and Airs, out of a total of four books. The edition was tanscribed and edited by DSH from a facsimile of a printed copy of 1600. The information for all the songs in this book is the same. Notes: 1. The source for this edition is John Dowland's "The Second Book of Songs or Ayres, of 2, 4, and 5 parts." Printed by Thomas Este for Thomas Morley, 1600. 2. Words are spelled as they appear in the edition of 1600. Obvious printing errors have been corrected. 3. The original is laid out for a group of singers/players around a table, with the words of the first verse under the music of each part. The remaining verses are printed out once, separately. Hence spellings/capitalization is sometimes different between the parts. 4. The key signatures are as they appear in the original. 5. Additional bar lines have been used. 6. Fermatas do not appear in all the parts of the original when they are used. 7. There are discrepancies between the lute part and voice parts, and in a few instances between the voice parts. Discrepancies have been changed in a few instances. Where this has been done the accidental is enclosed in brackets. 8. In a few instances note values have been changed to fit the other parts. The editor has assembled all these pages into a booklet. If you are interested in more details about this, please send Dan an e-mail.
